Emi is an information management tool that has been built using Microsoft Teams for use during emergency/event activations. It replaces EMIS.

Microsoft Teams is a collaborative tool that integrates people, content and tools in real-time to enable organisations to be more engaged and effective. It combines functionality such as chat, video-conferencing, file-sharing and storage. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has configured Emi in a way so that it can be used before, during and after an emergency.

For each emergency, it is possible to create a standalone site in Emi, called an Event.

The additional functionality includes:

  • Event Register – Webpage that provides access to all active and archived Events and allows users to create new Events using the Event template.

  • Event Template – Allows Events to be set up automatically with the below functionality. Users have the ability to invite other users into the system.

  • Homepage – Provides a summary view of information including recent Event Log entries and documents as well as a basic dashboard of tasks.

  • Published Documents – For storing and sharing final versions of documents related to the Event.

  • Event Log – Provides a chronological record of key information such as decisions, status updates, risks and issues.

  • Task Register – Contains a list of tasks assigned to CIMS functions and organisations with the added functionality of emailing tasks externally.

This training is for anyone working, or preparing to work, in an Emergency Operations Centre, Emergency Coordination Centre, the National Coordination Centre or the National Crisis Management Centre.

Download MS Teams here if you do not already have it installed. If your agency or security settings don't allow you to download MS Teams, you can use the online version instead. You will get access to the online version once you are added into an Emi Event.

Welcome - thanks for joining us!

The National Crisis Management Centre (NCMC) is a facility established by the Government to enable the national coordination and management of the response to and recovery from emergencies. The NCMC is located in the sub-basement of the Beehive in Wellington.  There may be times when this facility is not available/able to be used (eg. a large earthquake that affects Wellington) and so an Alternative NCMC facility has been identified at the Ellerslie Events Centre in Auckland (known as the Alternative NCMC).
